Смысл песни Синатры «Мой путь» («My Way») — это триумфальное, гордое подведение итогов жизни, прожитой по-своему, со всеми ошибками, победами и трудностями, с утверждением своего «я» и неповторимости, часто исполняется на похоронах как символ завершенной, но полной жизни. Хотя песня стала визитной карточкой Синатры, он ее не любил, а она была написана на французскую песню о расставании, переделанную Полом Анка для Фрэнка, который собирался уйти из шоу-бизнеса.

In the Russian language, there is a word with positive connotations that are entrenched in it by Soviet ideology: коллектив. In English, the term has partial equivalents: a group of people, team, collective. Neither of these is used as a cultural and institutional term projecting numerous ominous and threatening meanings associated with someone who didn’t belong. A person outside the collective body of people – коллектив– was someone who was an outcast of society and was put to misery for his having rebelled against its norms and rules. When I remember this wretched class of people the French name of a famous novel by Victor Hugo - Les Miserables – springs involuntarily to mind.
To appreciate Vladimir Vysotsky’s irony in his allusion to the collective in inverted commas one is supposed to have a full grasp of the rich connotations of the term:
