The proverb is double-edged: on the one hand it is a mere piece of politeness and the most acceptable form of hypocrisy, on the other, it is unfairly exonerating the sins of bad people through the mechanism of death. Though civilized people learn early to be respectful to death, there is no reason for whitewashing the wrong-doers. That’s why Count Odoyevsky’s variant of the proverb seems to carry more weight: "de mortuis seu veritas, seu nihil" - „О мёртвых либо правду, либо ничего“.

Gagarin's historic mission in Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961 lasted one hour and 48 minutes – far less than the average multiplex movie. Translating the Russian children’s proverb «Кто как обзывается, тот так и называется»:

Wrong because it creates the impression of accepting the accusation: I am doing it, but you are doing it too. In other words, this proverb can hardly be recognized as adequate translation because it creates the impression of Putin’s admitting good reasons for Biden’s scandalous and stupid accusation.
2) ABC News offers another version: “The names you call is what you are yourself.” This translation involves stylistic losses of information: playful connotations of children’s communication are lost.

Muhibbah does not mean tolerance: “To just tolerate is not really a nice feeling, it is condescending. Muhibbah is the opposite of tolerance, it means acceptance”.
When Malaysia gained independence from Britain in 1957, the leaders decided to adopt muhibbah as the unifying spirit of this new country to ensure there would be no tension between the various ethnic and religious groups. For example, while the country is officially an Islamic state, everyone has the right to follow their religious beliefs as well as speak their own languages. Even now, I see local newspaper articles in which politicians call upon this word as a reminder to continue with peaceful coexistence.

Pastila , pronounced with the stress on the final “a”, was first mentioned in the 16th-Century Russian Domostroi (Domestic Order), a codex of household rules and instructions on various religious, social and domestic matters. Originally developed as a means of preserving the apple harvest and providing a sweet treat throughout the winter months, it has nothing to do with the French pastille (another kind of sweet); instead, its name comes from the Russian verb postelit’ (to lay out).
Pastila is often equated with marshmallow, but this comparison does not do justice to its uniquely ethereal quality. It is made by baking apples until they are soft, then blending them into a purée before whipping them “into clouds” with egg whites and sugar. The mixture is spread out onto trays to a depth of about 2cm, then dried in a cool oven before being cut into strips or shapes. It’s an entirely natural product made exclusively from fresh ingredients; no starches, additives, colourings or preservatives are used, and it is low in calories. Pastila production requires firm, sour apple varieties – Russia’s famous Antonovka is the most suitable, being richer in pectin (a natural gelling agent) than other varieties.
