"Sergeant" can fall  into the category of Faux amis if you try to treat it as an equivalent of СЕРЖАНТ:

 СЕРЖАНТ is unlike its apparent equivalent in the British or US militaries, because it is a very junior rank in the Russian army. The equivalent role of Western non-commissioned officers is fulfilled in the Russian military by ПРАПОРЩИК, or "warrant officer".
