Unschooling: the new class of learning
20.03.2012, 12:30
Culture learning world Unschooling: the new class of learning
Many parents are taking their children out of the formal school system in favour of a freer way of learning.
It is not home schooling, where the standard curriculum is taught by parents or tutors. They call it unschooling, where youngsters are encouraged to explore the things they want to learn about or for which they have a specific talent.
In Berlin, we meet a young American who turned his back on school by the time he was 11-years-old. Dale J. Stevens is writing a book that he describes as "a practical guide to learning the skills that school doesn‘t teach but are requisite for success in the real world”. It is based on his experiences as an unschooler but also incorporates the stories of other people who found success in non-traditional ways.
In Paris, we meet the Stern family. André Stern is a well-known name in the world of music but he never went to school. He was raised in a household where passion is considered to be the perfect learning medium and the secret behind competence.
In New York state, the Emerson family are also embracing unschooling. They shun a formal curriculum in favour of encouraging their 12- and 9-year-old children to follow their passions and interests.

To my mind, "school at home" is a perfect way of lerning and, for sure, controlling the tasks made. When a child is the only pupil he or she would learn better and checked faster. As for unschooling, in my personal opinion, it absolutely doesn't matter whether someone is educated in an ordinary way or not (self education) if he/she is talented. However, school in it's normal way developes social skills and a person itself - hepls to find the way. But if someone knows already what to do and is not so eager to communicate with so-called "school people",it's definately ok. To conclude, it's a matter of character and choice - as the proverb says, "different strokes for different folks".

Having read the text I have thought of the essence of education, because in my opinion children need perfect knowledge in every field. End of story. If you are not familiar with ordinary curriculum, you are not prepared for ordinary life. The aim of educational institution is to give you a firm foundation, but your own aim is to deep it, to make it relevant. I would like to emphasize that every single brick of your knowledge has to be laid as perfectly as you can. Therefore, the background knowledge is mandatory for everybody, especially if you are going to be a true expert in translation, because translator has to master all the fields of liafe. Of course, I am talking about school not the higher education where you have to grab your obsession and improve your skills every goddamn day. Everything depends on you! I am opposite to unschooling in terms of being educated with many gaps. Since, if you wish to be in the hall of fame be well-educated from the four winds.

To learn  the lessons you like the most is a quite good idea. Our educational system isn't perfect because every teatcher demands his pupils to know his subject as well as it possible.  And sometimes it's difficult to devote the time to your favourite classes. It's clear that  if a person hates, for instance, biology he will never be a famous biologist but in the same time probably he will not be a well-known mathematician if he adores the math. A lack of spare time isn't helpful in this case but unschooling could be a real catch.  The problem of any society is assurance that it's awful to be illiterate in some questions. The majority of people is confident that phrases "to be educated" and "to be erudite" have the same meaning. But it's more important  how you apply your knowledge in the real life, but not how much you know. Besides if person isn't good at something he can be an expert on things he really loves.  We must take it into account. Parents should not create children in their own image, but let them to display the talent.

This system is somethingunusual in today's education. Of course it is a nice opportunity to pay
special attention and study subjects you like, but I don't maintain that. I don't
think that only your desire will help you to achieve success, especially when
you are a schoolboy. Pupils at the age of 9-12 need some control, that somebody putted
pressure on their will-power, as I consider they become lazier because of more
spare time.     Also can say that working withyour fellows in class helps you to learn on their mistakes, you tune for work
and then like a competition you want to be the first and this freer way of
learning doesn't give you enough practice, no exchange of ideas .

To my mind unschooling helps bountied children to explore new skills.I think it's a great idea to develop talents and inclinations in children at the age of 9-11 years. Children are inspired by new opportunities that provided by their parents or tutors. Even if developing of specific skills of child do not necessarily in their future .Only a few people can succeed and become more educated. But in most of cases the do not have much time for compulsory subjects.Certainly every new method of educration has it's  own pros and cons and this one isn't an exception. So parents should think twice before taking their child to unschooling.

I guess this idea of the unschoolingis quite interesting waywho  of the study. In some situation there are advantages
and disadvantages. First of all, such system helps us to understand and explore
the things we want to study and we want to choose for themselves.  But I guess you don’t have school’s
experience
and this life style, you lose the chance to introduce other
important parts of this life’s period
, which you even don’t give a thought. But
on the other hand, the unschooling study is good idea has already known
main studies
and they are ready to limit for themselves and I think it’s good way to find success in non-traditional ways. Butthere is one negative side you cannotchoose curriculum in order to get agood knowledge. But if you want this, you will not prevent anything. “Your
attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude” by ZigZiglar.

The very article is considered to be really interesting and it can be explained why it is so. The first thing we should note is that getting education at home does not pose something brand new. But the idea of revealing whatever the student likes sounds great. To my mind it may pour new colours in the process of learnig because, it is beyond dispute, if you want to explore something new firstly it should be interesting for youself. Evidently this is the advantage of unschooling. Speaking about the disadvantages i would like to underline that unschooling breaks the tradition. Of course it is a subjective point of view. However when studing at school you may meet new friends despite it sounds old-fashioned. Secondly while you get involved in the process of studing you may get more information of any kind. Anyway you can chose whatever you like. You can chose just common schooling or new unschooling, in any case, it depends on you and your preferences. It is up to you. From my point of view unschooling should be improved in order to be more efficient. The article reveals the buffling issue of modern society which is the way you want to study, I think, it might be helpful for those student who want to change or find something new in the education system world. In general neither schooling nor unschooling can take the first place in this competition.

I like the idea of learning things you desire to know and choosing your personal curriculum in order to get a good command of knowledge you think would be crucial in your further, adult, "real" life. But the key-word in the previous sentence is "think". Come on, I don't believe that one is really able to know what is valuable, useful, proper etc. having just turned 11 or so. In my opinion, children need to have a good guidance while they are growing up and becoming personalities. To find yourself, your way of living and therefore your happiness is the main task in a person's life, but there is one of the wisest Polish proverbs saying: "Co za dużo, to nie zdrowo!". Everything goes in it`s time.

I've never heard about such a way of learning at home. I thought those children who learn at home they just have the same, standard curriculum as at school have other. I believe that system will improve itself and kids who enhance they talents will really happy in life because they will achieve what they dream about. However, in this system I noticed one negative side - children are not so smart, they don't know another, important things. What if one of them is in dangerous, life-threating situation and how he will save himself when he doesn’t know what kinds of mushrooms he should eat or shouldn't, or how to bind his leg, or how to do fire and so on. We want to have a better life...always, but we should remember - do today what other don't wanna do and you'll have lots of opportunities tomorrow.
