Simplicity of the phrase may be deceptive:

The translation of  Yuz Aleshkovsky's novel  contains a mysterious phrase:

His experiments are directed against "Man, which has a proud sound". 

Of course it is one of various interpretations of the classical quote: 

Человек - это звучит гордо! 

(пьеса Горького "На дне".

Other translations:

"Mankind - that has a proud sound," "Man - how proud does it sound,"
