The Russian Spring

Not everybody was happy about the junta that usurped power in Kiev. Anti-junta demonstrations were held nearly everywhere in South-Eastern Ukraine. Pro-Russian sentiments were very strong. Many people turned to the Russian brethren, calls for Russia to interfere were heard everywhere. Ukrainian TV showed the mayor of my native city of Zaporozhye at a loss for words when he addressed the people begging them to explain what they meant by bringing three-color flags of Russia to his office. What they meant was clear.

1. The Ukrainian civil war

The civil war raging in Ukraine is a horrible but quite logical development of the language genocide unleashed against Russian – the main instrument of communication in Ukraine – by Nationalists who usurped power in Kiev after the so called “Revolution of Dignity” that took place in 2014 and was quick to kill the fledgling democracy in the country.

The clash of civilizations

The fault lines of the Western and Russian civilizations do not coincide with political borders. Samuel Huntington's explored the fact and made use of disunited Ukraine as an example in his "Clash of Civilizations" [Huntington, 1996] thesis was indeed shrewd and illustrative for several reasons

February 24, 2022: the Russo-Ukrainian war (RUW)

The so called Russo-Ukrainian war (RUW) – one of the most popular names for it - may be called so, because Russia sent into Ukraine a military expedition challenged by the Ukrainian army that put up a brave resistance against the Russian troops. Technically, the definition seems to be inaccurate, since no war was declared by either side.
